We asked each of our teachers a few questions to get to know them better!
Meet Dena Totaro!
When did yoga first become a part of your life?
I’ve been drawn and practicing yoga, meditation for over 20 years, but it wasn’t until 10 years ago when I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and had several autoimmune disorders, staph infection in my body and all sorts of other health issues plus going through a divorce with 2 babies in diapers that I REALLY started to understand and appreciate Yoga & Meditation and Energy Healing. It was then that I started to use food as medicine, yoga and breath work kept me grounded and in the present and started doing energy work with crystals on myself. It became a passion of mine from then on. If I could 100% heal my body with holistic health I wanted to know more and help others. When I got well enough (8 years later) I went and got my 200 hour YTT and my Energy Healing Certification afterwards, and recently got my Reiki Level 1 & 2 Certifications. I believe in the mind, body, spirit approach to health and healing.
When did you begin teaching? What made you decide to progress from student to teacher?
What is your personal practice and practice that you teach?
I do some sort of breath-work & meditation for at least 30 minutes every day. I also do 20 minutes of crystal energy healing on myself most days. I also practice asana (physical) at least 3 times a week. I can teach any level and style yoga but prefer to teach teach alignment focused, which focuses on holding the pose for several breaths in each pose and really working with your breath and correct alignment. I also like to incorporate some breath work in each class.
If you could be any animal in the world, what would it be and why?
My totem animal is and owl and I have eagle energy as well, sorry that’s two. Maybe I can shape-shift between the two :)
What is your favorite quote?
I have two many quotes to pick a favorite…. but if I was going to pick one… "If you want to fly, give up everything that weighs you down."
When to practice with you at the owl?
I do workshops on healthy living, Breathwork & meditation, Crystal Energy Healing.
