Teacher Tuesday: Gill Carmody

We asked each of our teachers a few questions to get to know them better!

Meet Gill Carmody!

When did qigong first become a part of your life?

I was drawn to tai chi and qigong about 20 years ago as a way of introducing a ‘soft’ exercise into my life. As a former professional athlete I was used to hard exhausting physical training but I always knew there was more to health than a good exterior shell. It was time to discover the internal energy, the importance of breath and the incredible potential of guided imagery meditation for well-being.

When did you begin teaching?

What made you decide to progress from student to teacher?

Began teaching in 2000 as a natural progression. Being a teacher is one of the biggest learning opportunities since we are always looking for, and finding new ways to help students understand and embody the principles of the art. Furthermore, qigong is such a gift to humanity that it would be a great dis-service not to share it.

What is your personal practice and practice that you teach?

I practice tai chi and qigong daily. I am also a Teacher Training student with Master Kenneth Cohen and that requires me to attend many workshops, as well as read and write reviews of approx 50 books… among other things. (This is what I call my qigong Phd!) I teach a variety of qigong sets for health. I also teach qigong as it relates to sports performance and qigong for managing stress in the workplace. Additionally, I offer External Qi Healing which is similar to Therapeutic Touch. Qigong balances your energy; External Qi Healing balances the energy of someone else.

If you could be any animal in the world, what would it be and why?

I would be a Boxer dog, simply because I love their innate qualities: playful, clown-like, loyal, happy, protective and pure fun. Plus, as a Boxer I will more than likely have a good family to look after me, great food, constant walks in nature and best of all, a good medical insurance plan… all for free!

What is your favorite quote?

When you bow deeply to the Universe, it bows back. (Morihei Ueshiba)

When to practice with you at the owl? (days/times)

How to schedule a session with you?
