Creating Sacred Space and Virtual Classroom Experience at Home

Updated: Mar 29, 2020

Here are a few tips on setting up your own sacred space at home for viewing on-demand or live stream classes.

Find a space in your house that is quiet, uncluttered, has a nice view Or GO OUTSIDE.

Arrive 15 minutes early to prepare your space and settle in.

Setting the Mood

Sage, turn on candles, incense and/or a diffuser with your favorite scent.

Bring in some plants, crystals, inspirational items to create a calm, relaxing environment.

Setting up your Stuff

Place your mat and all the props you’ll need:

  • Blocks (or books, rolled up blankets as a substitute)

  • Straps (or a hand towel, neck tie, dog leash, rope as a substitute)

  • Bolster (or pillows from bed or couch, you can also roll up towels/blankets)

  • Blanket

  • Eye pillow (or hand towel)

Audio/Visual Set-up

  • Grab your laptop or mobile device and power plug.

  • Prop your laptop/mobile device up on a chair or stacked books so you can view it well. Alternatively if you have a projector and screen or way to connect your laptop to a TV screen, you can project the class up there.

  • Turn up the volume. Use your headphones if you prefer, just note, earbuds may fall out during class or get in the way.

  • Turn down lights in room as needed.

  • If you'd like to listen to music, check out our playlist on the Grey Owl MB Spotify profile which you can play in the background.

Interacting with your Virtual Classroom

  • Log into the Zoom meeting Waiting Room at list 5 minutes before so you may resolve any technical issues. If it is your first time using Zoom, log in at least 15 minutes prior.

  • Use the name you used to register so that we know who you are if you don't have your camera on.

  • Decide if you want to turn on your camera and have that on so the teacher can see you.

  • Select the Presenter View in the upper right hand screen (versus Grid View) so you can see the presenter's video large.

  • Have a seat or lay down on your mat and breathe for a few minutes to prepare for class.

  • Say "HI" when you arrive to the virtual class via chat or your mic if audio is on.

  • We’ll mute you while the class is in session so send us a chat if you have an issue hearing or seeing us.

  • After class, we’ll unmute everyone so feel free to let us know how you feel and how it went. You can use this time to catch up with your buddies virtually. When you are ready to head out, just end the meeting.

We hope this helps create a little zen place in your home to practice with us virtually!
