Meet Jenni Gruher!
She graduated from the University of Florida with an undergrad and masters degree in elementary education. She taught in the classroom for eight years and then became a stay at home mom to two beautiful children. Teaching has always been very natural for her and she's always felt a connection to children. She decided what would be better than combining her two passions - children and yoga! Her curiosity continued to grow and soon after, she decided to expand and receive her 200 hr yoga teacher training through Dorje Yoga.
She began her yoga journey when she was 25 with the goal of building better flexibility. She was always pretty athletic. She ran track and field, played softball, and always loved adventure races. Looking back now, she realizes that she only allowed her physical body to benefit from these activities. Maybe she was too young emotionally or not quite ready to divulge herself fully to this practice.
By about 28, she felt her physical yoga practice building into a stronger foundation. She listened well and started to learn the names of yoga poses in Sanskrit and observed other yoga students in the class flow through sequences. This is when her curiosity developed. She wanted to be more mindful and feel a union of her mind, body, and spirit.
Jenni says she's seen yoga bring incredible peace and focus for individuals of all ages. She feels grateful to have the opportunity to share her love and passion of yoga to the kids and adults in our community and intend to continue to share and inspire for years to come!
Jenni resides in John Creek with her handsome husband and two children, ages 10 and 7.
We asked each of our teachers a few questions to get to know them better ...
What/who inspires you?
My inspiration comes simply from beauty. There is so much beauty around us! I am inspired by the beauty in nature, beautiful art, inspirational people, acts of kindness, animals, children, quotes and poetry.
What book has influenced your life the most?
Books have been a huge influence in my life! It’s fascinating to become immersed in someone else’s world that is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced and it’s truly exhilarating! I’ve read many books by great authors.
I recently read Michelle Obama’s book Becoming. Mrs. Obama’s story was genuine, honest, and authentic.
She is a strong and confident female leader who stays true to herself!
Favorite and least favorite posture, and why?
This is a tough question! It depends on the day and what emotion I am bringing to class.
My favorite postures when I feel strong and confident are Crow Pose and Archer.
When I feel the need to slow things down a bit, I favor a more restorative yoga pose
such as Child’s Pose or Plow Pose.
Our least favorite poses are the ones we should practice the most right?! HA!
I’ll be honest! Chair pose is one of my least favorite poses. It’s a love/ hate relationship!
If you could visit anywhere in the world you’ve never been, where would you go?
I’m fortunate enough to have traveled to some pretty incredible places in my life! But if I could go anywhere in the world, I would choose Thailand. The spirit of the Thai culture, the people, and beauty of the land has always been on my bucket list, not to mention the food!
What superpower do you wish you possessed?
Haha now this is a great question! I would say the superpower I wished I possessed would be speed! I am a pretty slow and meticulous person by nature so I like to take my time doing things, but if I could accomplish all of my chores like doing the laundry, dishes, cleaning.. in no time at all, that would be awesome! Haha
What times/days do you teach at Grey Owl? / What are your offerings at Grey Owl?
I teach Mondays at 10:30. My classes aim to inspire you and bring you back to your true self while creating a sense of peace and calm. Each class is designed with the opportunity for you to flow through all ranges of motion while feeling an equal amount of empowerment and restoration.
As we bring awareness to our breath, we will share our energy and raise the vibration by flowing through a beautiful and balanced sequence of poses that creates peace and harmony in our bodies, minds, and spirits.
