Teacher Tuesday: Meet Mari!

Meet Mari Godwin, Yoga, Aerial, Pilates and Barre Teacher!

Mari believes that everyone should have mind-body connection and find joy and freedom when moving their bodies. That goal inspires her everyday as she brings the joy that she finds on her mat and in her aerial hammock to her students.

Mari loves watching her students grow stronger and learning what their bodies are capable of. Her classes include helpful alignment and modification. guidance as well as being challenging. In all the classes she teaches, she seeks to keep it fun and be a creative experience.

She loves to watch that spark she sees in her students ignite into a flame and help them accomplish their goals, both physically and mentally.

Mari is a certified Pilates teacher and a registered RYT 200 yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance. She also holds a aerial yoga certification with Wild Roots Yoga and is currently working on her 500 hour yoga teacher training certification.

Mari is married to her high school sweatheart and has 3 children. When not teaching or practicing, she loves to spend her time with her family in the mountains and floating on a lake somewhere.

We asked each of our teachers a few questions to get to know them better...

What/who inspires you?

At this moment, I’m particularly inspired by the resilience I’m seeing in some women in my life. They have faced significant loss and health challenges and the strength they are able to find to not only carry on but flourish is amazing and inspiring.

What book has influenced your life the most?

I have read many books that have influenced me but the most recent one is The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk. It is about  how trauma literally reshapes the body and mind and how we can heal the body of trauma through various techniques, including but not limited to yoga. It is an amazing read.

Favorite and least favorite posture, and why?

My favorite pose is probably a headstand. I love inversions and the energy I receive from them. My least favorite are arm balances. They are a struggle for me and very frustrating.

If you could visit anywhere in the world you’ve never been, where would you go?

I would visit Scotland. I’m actually going there next summer but I’ve not been yet and I have a lot of family from there and have heard many stories.

What superpower do you wish you possessed?

To be able to transport to different places with just a thought or gesture! That way I can visit family around the world in seconds.

What times/days do you teach at Grey Owl? / What are your offerings at Grey Owl?

I teach Tone up/Tune in at 4:30 and flow at 6 pm on Wednesday nights and aerial basics at 9 am on Thursdays.
